I had time to explore this old ship wreck on the south side of Fermeuse Harbour. I tried to make out the name on the bow but was unable to identify the vessel. It is always a treat to paddle near a wreck because your mind just wonders, or at least mine does, about all the tales stored up in its remains.

I do geocaching and there is a geocache on a beach nearby. I haven't done that one yet but the person who placed the cache has some info about this wreck on the cache page:
"The S.S. ILEX caught fire and was ran aground on 27 October 1948. She was built in 1919 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Length 161.1 feet Width 32.9 feet. Gross ton 694. Draft 32.9 feet. Last owner was Arthur R. Wareham."
Thanks a bunch Karen. Fellow bloggers in Wisconsin may be delighted to know they have a connection here in Newfoundland. Ireally enjoyed the days paddle in Fermeuse and I bet it is even more quaint in summer.
