One of our more experienced paddlers and one of the best kayak rollers in our area. We were discussing down wind sails on this paddle today and Bob showed me his spirit sail which I am very interested in. I have a deluge downwind sail but "too many strings attached" I liked one of Bob's philosophy's about paddling, no strings!! Bob paddles effortlessly thru water with a consistent precision. Hard to match.
I really liked this small sheltered harbour. Someone is building a wharf on the near shore so it's secret has long been discovered by others that is for sure!
I guess I'll add this shot from the Rantem paddle to my kayak art section of photos. I enjoy exagerating the colors in some shots because if I were a painter, I would use bright colors, they impart a mood I like being in.
Blue Chart Data from yesterday. We actually paddled about 17km so it was a great day to be out on the blue waters and sunny skies of Newfoundland.

Leaving Chance Cove and heading towards Western Head we encounterd all kinds of interesting rock stacks and formations. Just a paddlers paradise this Island of Newfoundland.

Lots of us today, as we leave and weave in the waters of Trinity Bay on the way to Rantem.
The coast is rugged in newfoundland,and there is lots of it. This place is home to 29,000km of coastline, including 9,656km of bays, breathtaking fjords, guts, and inlets- not to mention the inland lakes, rivers and ponds. You'll never run out of places to kayak.
It wouldn't be an outing for me if I didn't get a saline flush of some kind. Playing around some shallow areas of Trinity Bay on the Rantem outing today. Ya gotta like that sun shining thru the wave.
Alex is always a good target for a photo as often is is always in the damnest of places, of course I woldn't be far behind.
Plenty of rock formations as you paddle from Chance Cove to Rantem and lots of rock hopping to be had. A little breeze about 15 knots made the paddle comfortable.
There were about 34 people on this paddle today and it wasn't easy finding a solitary paddler to fix on as they cruised by.
Rounding western Head we were treated to this stack spiralling out of the ocean as we headed for a beach and some lunch. Rantem was just around the next headland from here.
This beach just around Western Head provided an ideal take-out spot for our lunch. It was sweet to be able to carb up and chat with some paddling mates. Some of the guys took adavantage of the awesome weather today and were able to "air-out" in the sun.
Now there were tales of a "headless" paddler in this area, yeah right!, we jested...paddle on I did up the gut of rantem and low and behold lying under that bridgeway was a site to behold, and behold I did as I shot this visage of the "headless paddler". Startled at first, I was expecting something to happen, what could he say....he has no head. I turned to Tony, are you seeing this? and back again the "headless paddler" was gone.
From Chance Cove to Rantem. Nice head wind heading up this Cove and lucky are the inhabitants who hunker down here for the beauty and solitude this little area offers. Paul paddling into the village.
