I put the two maps here of the trip because the topo has the names of the areas on the Peninsula. It was a most awesome journey, as all are.

"Paddling The Peninsula of Port de Grave"
I put the two maps here of the trip because the topo has the names of the areas on the Peninsula. It was a most awesome journey, as all are.
"Port de Grave"
Port de Grave (harbour of the beaches), NFLD Feb. 1st, 2008. For a concise history and perspective on Port de Grave Peninsula check out this link. http://portdegrave.com/hibbs_cove.htm
"Bareneed, NL"
This is my put-in site at 0730h on Feb.1st, 2008 for an approx. 4 hr paddle up the Port de Grave Peninsula. Should have been 3 but there were strong head winds coming back. The day started out very sunny and remained that way for the whole of the trip. The winds varied the whole way but definitely picked up upon my return.
"Fox's Rocks"
These rocks/cliffs are just up the Peninsula from Blow Me Down and had an interesting grain to them. Some places in NFLD I swear, it looks like the glaciers just left!
"Blow Me Down"
"Green Point Light"
When I got to this point I thought I would round it and continue on down Bay Roberts but the wind was just howling so I decided to head back to Bay De Grave/Conception Bay.

"Ship Cove Pond, Inland Fisherman"
You don't have to go very far on the Peninsula of Port de Grave to be inland but after my paddle to the end of it I decided to drive to the end and finish my visit. I was glad I did. Very rich culture here. I saw this Fisherman walking on the ice of Ship Cove Pond, which is at road level. When he stopped he put a line in the ice and began to tug oblivious to me the whole time.
