"View To A Dream"

Sometimes I like to dream when I look at pictures. Sometimes that is made easy by the content. Sometimes it is made easy by the mood it portrays. This just makes me think on that.

"A Tranquil Spot"

On a recent hike, on part of Newfoundland's East Coast Trail, I found a spot where tranquility and beauty seem to be one and where living in the moment was worth every bit of life.

"Now Don't Tell Mommy..."

I am sure if Mommy knew they were out this close to the edge at Flat Rock Point we'd be in a little hot water which would have felt a lot warmer than the 7 degrees today with strong winds blowing right off the ocean. The winds must have been gusting to 50-60 km or more today for sure. Gale warnings were in effect. This didn't hinder our little stroll but if Mommy new they were as close to the edge today as they got...as I got...we'd be in a little bit of hot water.

"Not So Wild Life"

Riley and Brandy and I went on a hiking trip in Flatrock Newfoundland yesterday. The winds were high and the wave action on the waters was intense. The girls loved the trek. We also went out to Cape Spear and had a bit of a hike there as well. The winds there were even more intense and the spray from the crashing waves on the shore could be felt all along the trail. The dogs loved it......so did I.

"Into The Harbour"

Looking into St. John's harbour at Fort Amherst, our put-in for a 2 hour hike to Freshwater Bay and points beyond. The hike is on the East Coast Trail of Newfoundland and well worth a trip to Newfoundland if you are an avid hiker. We met lots of hikers and amazingly mountain bikers along the way. Google it, you won't be disappointed.

"Far Out"

On the distant headland to the left of the picture is Cape Spear as we stopped for pictures and water on The East Coast Trail of Newfoundland. The Trail is 540km long. Covering about 32 communities along it's route. A beautiful rugged and challenging trail in spots. Just an amazing vantage point looking to Ireland...couldn't see it though.

"Freshwater Bay"

Freshwater Bay is located on the East Coast Trail and on the way to Cape Spear Lighthouse in Newfoundland. This was our destination today after about a 4-5km hike over some pretty rugged terrain but spectacular in beauty.

"Gull Cannibal"

This Gull brought new meaning to the term scavenger. As we were paddling the shore line Wayne noticed lots of feathers in the water. I thought it was nothing. It may have been a gull scrap and if so, this was ones' fate. The gull floating nearby was digging at the not so lucky gull's chest as we paddled near and he wasn't willing to fly away none too soon either.

While swimming in Fox Island the Atlantic this time home wasn't so cold and when you ducked under water, we use to call it "getting your ducking", you could see these little minnows.

At first I was alarmed when Wayne yelled that there was a black cloud moving in to shore and that it was moving around quickly. Well, exposed up to my waist I wasn't too happy about any black cloud moving uder water that I couldn't see. So I ducked under again and saw the huge school of fish swimming around our legs. Very cool!

"Brandy & Riley:The East Coast Trail"

"The East Coast Trail"

Well Warming up to spring, you might say, so I took this afternoon off and did a hike on part of our Eastcoast Trail here in Newfoundland. It is a bit icey to say the least and trecherous in some places. I had to be extremely careful in a lot of spots but this is only due to the recent cold tempeatures we've been having. The dogs didn't seem to have any problem though. Most of the snow is gone so if we had just one warm day I am sure the rest would melt away. The scenery is always captivating along this trail and when the sun is shining, regardless of the cold, it just becomes refreshing.

"Cape St. Mary's Lighthouse, Cape St. MAry's Newfoundland"

The day is September 27th, 2008 and I am looking at this lighthouse and the fog and wondering where all the birds are. It is my first time at "The Cape" and I couldn't even see the lighthouse when I was only 30 meters in front of it, I heard it loud and clear though. There is a sign posted indicating that the foghorn can damage your hearing. I understand why.

I attempted this morning to paddle out to The Cape from St. Bride's in Distress Cove. I was forced to turn back because of the thick fog that had rolled in only 1 and a half hours into my paddle. I just played around St. Bride's for a bit and decided to head for a community on the east side of the pennsula called Branch and on the way there I stopped at Cape St. Mary's Eclogical Bird Sanctuary to see if it was foggy there to...of course. Thicker than St. Bride's. All I could see was this lighthouse....once I tripped over it that is.

I left here and headed to Lance Cove where I paddled for about 3 hours and played in the surf and will post those pictures tomorrow. The sun came out in Lance Cove at about 1500h so I headed back to Cape St. Mary's and was able to take the following pictures. I was so gald to have made the decision to return to view "The Cape" on a sunny day. They say that if an eagle hoovers overhead you will be blessed with luck and so I was for the rest of my weekend journey.
