"Putting In, Lance Cove, Newfoundland""

Well padding on the Avalon Peninsula does not allow for you to drive on your put-in site very often. Thought I'd drive right on the beach and unload for a paddle at Lance Cove on a Sept. 27th late morning after a short trip from St. Bride's and a botched attempt to paddle to Cape St. Mary's because of fog. As it turn out there was fog here too but rolling in and out so that the sun was out more than in.

"The Sunker"

On a south west heading to an area called The Sunker just off Bull Island Point and West of Lance Cove. Light winds and moderate swell but lots of "lop".

"Bull, Cow and Calf"

There are actually three islands about a mile and a half due South of Lance Cove beach called Bull, Cow and Calf in reference to their decreasing size I presume. They are slightly visible here. I paddled part way out but as I got closer there was lots of heavy breaking surf due the shoaling of the area and the swell coming in from the south west.

"The Tilts"

Looking SW to a headland called the Tilts. This portion of the Avalon Peninsula juts out into the southern part of St. Mary's Bay. Some "lop" here today but fine for playing in the surf and quite nice to be able to land on a sandy beach for a change. Still some fog on this Sept. 27th day but much less than I had at St. Bride's on the other side of this Peninsula.

"Drying Out In Lance Cove, Newfoundland"

Looking SE down the beach here and taking every opportunity to dry gear after playing in the surf. Getting ready also to pack up and head back to Cape St. Mary's to see what it looks like there without the fog. The previous post from yesterday will show that it was well worth the trip.
