``Visitors``

Visitors from Toronto were on the water as well with one of our own paddlers guiding, Gerard Keough. Gerard looked happy to be on the water as usual. I paddled that double last year on a weekend trip and it is a tub of a boat but excellent stability for the waters they were in and a sure way t give a Torontonian a thrill in Bay Bulls.

"I'll Take It.."

An aberration in most anything is usually unwanted. So when you get one of those blasted water droplets on your lens and you think you just had the shot of your life...........until you get home. You see the droplet on the image and no amount of anything is gonna make that picture better. Well in this shot the water droplet may not have made the picture better but it sure made the sky most interesting. One for me, minus one for water droplets everywhere. Wind the kayakers nightmare, water droplets, the photo kayakers nightmare. As if wind wasn't enough.lol Oh yes Tony is in that shot too. lol

"Kayaking Newfoundland Waters"

Kayaking Newfoundland waters is an exciting prospect. Kayaking is an exciting prospect. Not everyday is a kayaking day nor is every kayaking day without it's inherent risk. It is managing risk in this area to enjoy the waters that it has to offer. The amazing thing about all this is that there is so much beautiful coastline the non-paddler cannot see, and it is very close to St. John's and area.
So sometimes when it is dark and seemingly gloomy and waters to rough to be plied by kayak or any other boat we will always be thinking where our next adventure lies and if you cannot for what ever reason make it on the water yourself, visit this site and you will enjoy photos and some fun banter on our beautiful coast that is Newfoundland. "December 24th"

Reposting this image because I had it as my blog header and they do not get archived on my site. I wanted this image archived so here it is again. Some of the boys of St. John's kayaking club preparing for Christmas.

"Open Water Bound"

I love open water, I love sheltered waters, and I love surfy, fluffy waves, caves and rock gardens and when it comes to kayaking I just love being in one anywhere. Who gives a rats ass where it is you paddle. Our club's newsgroup has become a repository for some hurtful banter on the issue. I prefer the decent blogs I visit around the world and seek comfort knowing if I cannot get out myself I can at least paddle vicariously through those who are able and willing to paddle anywhere at anytime and like I said who gives a rats ass about the rest of the crap. Thanks to all you great kayak bloggers and for all the excellent content. You all know who you are. LOL

"Spooky"

MAybe not but you know there were so many shots with drops of water on them that it was hard even with photo shop (very limited knowledge there) to try and repair so I opted for playing with other things to change the image and of course degrade it further...lol...just for effect though.

"Paddling In The Lull Of A Storm, Part2"

If you pay closer attention at times 3:35 and 4:11 you will see the waves start to hide the horizon, and then crash on shore, respectively. Too bad pictures mask some of the actual sea state and I suspect they do to a degree save that you just have to have the right angles to get quality shots. I most certainly did not, especially since the drops were starting to mask and coat the lens as was obvious by the water blobs and streaks in the video. Kind of fun to try and capture something though.

" Everything Elemental"

I guess I'll add this shot from the Rantem paddle to my kayak art section of photos. I enjoy exagerating the colors in some shots because if I were a painter, I would use bright colors, they impart a mood I like being in.

"Eclipse"

Through thick and then this boat has a number of stories to tell I like to place her in my "kayak art" selection. Just down from Topsail Beach this evening.

"Drawn"

Perhaps it is only me that likes this kind of shot where I've messed with the picture lots. This however makes me think on more of what might be going on in the picture. What is the paddler looking at? Is it raining? That sort of thing as opposed to the clearer picture giving it all away. I really like this texture too. Brian appears to be clearly focused on something.

"To The Headland"

Adding a bit of texture to the image gives more of a two dimensional feel to the picture, more like an "art look" than just a glossy photo. Brian heading for the headland nonetheless.

"Shoot'n By"

Well if they can digitally remaster music I figure we can give photography a go. So many pictures are "played with" now that we have digital photography and the processing software that is available to newbies and pros alike. I just enjoy sometimes seeing the different images that one can end upwith when you mess with a few things like increasing shadow, filling in light, sharpening the image, softening the image, tinting, filtering, warmifying or even mess'n with the saturation that can sometimes give you very extraordinary colors. I just use Picassa but there are much more powerful programs out there for sure.

I like this shot as it was sort of the last few strokes of the day.

"KNL Retreat 2007"

Freya at last years retreat demonstrating some Greenland rolls. I obviously rotated this image for a unique look. From this perspective it looks as if Freya is embedded in a huge wall of mottled rock or glass. Entombed in time perhaps! We're looking forward to great clinics this year from Bryan Smith and Fergus Coffey.
