Actually the pictures make it appear very thick but visibility on this day was ok as land ,distant water and paddlers were visible at all times. Having said that some consider fog navigation an art but with GPS and proper funtioning compass and nautical charts it can be done. It is easy on an Island, you just keep at least one side to you the whole time.lol The point is I guess you have to have some seamanship, be confident to trust your compass, know how to dead reacon, know about currents and wind and how they will affect your speed made good over water and of course be able to utilize aids to navigation and navigational aids.
I like the pics on your site so far, it will be interesting following kayaking in Scandanavia. All the best
