"Kayaking Dreamin'"

Sometimes when ya can't get out you can only dream about it. Tomorrow night Malcolm, a respected paddler from our club will be giving a talk on forecasts and nautical charts. Malcolm's knowledge in this area is extensive and his presentations are always very educational and informative. The kinds of talks you don't want to miss if you are serious about paddling on the ocean. Of course the irony is, this picture is not too serious at all but it does make a point. It is crucial to check the forecast before you venture out anywhere in a kayak, simple yes, not always done however by novice paddlers. I'd like to thank the paddlers in this photo; Malcolm, Des, Linda and Tony. Glad you guys had your dry suits on! lol I think I got cabin fever already.

Stupid forecasts. We were silly enough to look at tomorrow's, which is mid 30's, which is what it's been all week, but the winds went from like 10 kts to a small craft advisory, and now we aren't going paddling!

Forecasts. BAH!

I know that feeling. Liked the pics of your snowy/icey paddle though. Glad to see our neighbours still paddling. We are hoping to get out tomorrow though if weather improves. It is currently -21 celsius with wind chill.

Wow. Me and my friends are a bunch of weenies.

I'm going to go for a walk on Coney Island. Actually if we'd bundled up I think it might have been a gorgeous paddling day, it's bright & sunny.

Love the ice descriptions today! I had found something like that only not quite as in-depth last week - I was wanting to call that mushy ice we had "frazil ice" but wasn't sure where I'd picked up that term (I think it was Smilla's Sense of Snow, I didn't see the movie, but the book has some rich descriptions of how Greenlanders look at ice worked into the mystery). The trip report just ended up being too long to work any of that into, but it was pretty interesting
